And so it begins…

…and ends rather quickly.

Today was my first ever trip to my local yarn store!  The people there were super-nice, and they all seemed really passionate about yarn.

Young Dylan helped me.  He had to keep running back and forth to the warehouse above the shop, which for some reason necessitated going outside the store.  In the end, I purchased five skeins of yarn:  two Brown Sheep Nature Spun Worsted Weight in Spiced Plum, and three Brown Sheep Lanaloft Worsted Weight in Buckwheat.  I also went home with three sets of knitting needles, as I was unsure what size I would need.

I had intended to get some Nature Spun in Saddle Brown instead of the Lanaloft, but they didn’t have any in stock, and Dylan said that there was a possibility that it had been discontinued, so I took the other stuff just in case.  Fortunately, I was able to find the Saddle Brown online rather easily, so in the interest of screen accuracy I ordered it.

My local yarn shop has an excellent return policy, so when I go back to get the next color, (Chocolate Kisses, for those of you playing along,) I’ll just exchange the Lanaloft.

Since I finished the first strip of Spiced Plum tonight, (8 rows, if you’re counting,) I have to wait until the Saddle Brown arrives until I can continue.

According to my calculations, if I knit two rows a day, every day, I will finish the scarf in a year and a half.  I’m hoping to do it in significantly less time than that, but my summer weekend job may throw a wrench into that plan.  We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Until next week!
