Never fear! I have been working on the scarf, but what with the knitting, and holiday prep, and the playing of the Skyrim I haven’t had time to take photos of my progress, or make a post.
My goal for my first week (or any week, really,) of knitting was fourteen rows. According to my calculations, knitting two rows a day, every day, would allow me to complete the scarf in a year and a half. I thought that was a perfectly reasonable goal.
Instead, I knitted FORTY EIGHT rows! It seems I had forgotten just how quickly knitting goes once I get into the groove.
At this rate, it will take me approximately 21 weeks, or just over five months to complete the scarf.
We’ll see if I can keep this speed up.
I’ll be stopping by the yarn store tomorrow to pick up the next three colors, and exchange the incorrect color I purchased last time.
I do plan on posting on time next week, but I may not manage that due to the holidays.
Until next time!
...and ends rather quickly.
Today was my first ever trip to my local yarn store! The people there were super-nice, and they all seemed really passionate about yarn.
Young Dylan helped me. He had to keep running back and forth to the warehouse above the shop, which for some reason necessitated going outside the store. In the end, I purchased five skeins of yarn: two Brown Sheep Nature Spun Worsted Weight in Spiced Plum, and three Brown Sheep Lanaloft Worsted Weight in Buckwheat. I also went home with three sets of knitting needles, as I was unsure what size I would need.
I had intended to get some Nature Spun in Saddle Brown instead of the Lanaloft, but they didn't have any in stock, and Dylan said that there was a possibility that it had been discontinued, so I took the other stuff just in case. Fortunately, I was able to find the Saddle Brown online rather easily, so in the interest of screen accuracy I ordered it.
My local yarn shop has an excellent return policy, so when I go back to get the next color, (Chocolate Kisses, for those of you playing along,) I'll just exchange the Lanaloft.
Since I finished the first strip of Spiced Plum tonight, (8 rows, if you're counting,) I have to wait until the Saddle Brown arrives until I can continue.
According to my calculations, if I knit two rows a day, every day, I will finish the scarf in a year and a half. I'm hoping to do it in significantly less time than that, but my summer weekend job may throw a wrench into that plan. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Until next week!
In a couple of hours, I am going to be leaving to meet The Boyfriend for lunch, and pick up the first batch of materials for knitting my Doctor Who Scarf. I’m going to be using Sport Weight Brown Sheep wool. Since the scarf requires quite a large amount of yarn, I’m just going to pick up some needles, and two skeins each of the first two colors. (I do want the dye lots to remain consistent, after all.)
When I get home, I’m going to photograph my haul, and get started!
It’s been quite some time since I’ve knitted anything, so I think I might have to practice a bit before I really get into the swing of things.
Wish me luck!
